Safety Task Force
In October 2006, $100,000 was allocated to address safety on and around Grounds. The Task Force recommended working with Student Council to support the flat screens with text message emergency notification software - now known as UVa Alerts. GPS Bus Tracking System
University buses will soon carry GPS locators to provide on-demand timing and real time location information to assist students in tracking the buses they need. Waiting times at bus stops can be estimated through web sites, bus stop responders, and eventually cell phones. Students can take buses instead of walking because they know when their buses will arrive.

COLA Classes
Working with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the parents provided funding to improve first-year academic advising at the University. From an initial idea in 2004, a series of classes has been developed and is now offered for credit. The parents have also provided funding to develop a second-year program to build on the success of the first-year program. These classes have been submitted for accreditation to become a regular course offering.
