MEIKEL ANDRADE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Meikel Andrade Memorial Scholarship Award is a monetary award given to an exceptional African-American female entering her first year at The University of Virginia. The award was established in 1998 to honor the late Meikel Andrade who died in an accident two months before her matriculation to The University of Virginia.

The award was established by family and friends to benefit a first-year African-American woman who possesses the qualities that made Meikel so special: leadership, commitment, integrity, resourcefulness, creativity and a wonderful sense of humor. During her life, Meikel volunteered for charities, was active in her school and community, tutored children and was an athlete. She planned to become a reconstructive surgeon and help those with reconstructive needs. Meikel Andrade had a true commitment to service and a desire to make a difference.

The Meikel Andrade Memorial Scholarship Award

Each year, a first-year African-American female will be given The Meikel Andrade Memorial Scholarship Award for $1500. The award will be renewable for four years based on academic achievement and service for a total sum of $6000.
