Annual Fund

Gifts to the Annual Fund support a wide array of events and services for the students, alumni, housestaff and faculty of the U.Va. School of Medicine, such as:

  • Scholarships: The MAA provides financial assistance through student scholarships and interest-free loans.  The recently created Global Health Initiative provides financial support for students participating in electives providing service abroad to communities in need.
  • Events: White Coat Ceremony, Match Day, Graduation Open House, Parents Day, Exam Breaks, Money Talks Financial Planning Seminars, Lipscomb Lectureship, and Reunion Weekend, just to name a few.  Visit our Events page to see what events are coming up.
  • Student and Alumni Networking: Provided through the HOST Program, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • News and Information: The Medical AlumNews magazine is available online and in print.  The MAA E-News Capsule offers the latest news every other month.

Annual Fund Gifts are recognized in the following Medical Alumni giving societies:

 Co-Founders Society  $5,000
 Harvey Jordan Society  $1,000
 Paul Barringer Society  $500
 Robley Dunglison Society  $250

All donors are included in our Annual Report and Honor Roll. Annual Fund gifts count toward the University of Virginia Rotunda Society.

Membership Dues

Dues provide general funds for the operational support of the Medical Alumni Association. Activities such as publications, medical student receptions, and other programs are partially underwritten by dues payments.

Ways to Give

  • Gifts of Cash
    Make a gift and pay your Dues online to support the U.Va. School of Medicine and the Alumni Association.

  • Securities
    Use your investments in the financial markets without losing a substantial portion of your earnings to the capital gains tax by making charitable contributions, either via an outright gift or a planned gift, with appreciated stock. You may also make a gift with appreciated shares in a mutual fund.

  • Endowment Gifts
    Endowment gifts are long-term investments aimed at securing the success of the Health System for years to come. These gifts are retained and invested to produce sufficient income to support student scholarships, faculty professorships, and other important programs.
  • Planned Gifts
    There are three ways to support the School of Medicine through financial or estate planning: Plans from your estate, plans that pay you income, and plans that help the University now and your family later. 

** Please Note  Effective March 1, 2009, the Medical School Foundation will apply a one-time 5% assessment on each installment of restricted gifts to support the unrestricted general operating funds of the School of Medicine. **
