New E-mail Service Coming for Alumni (updated May 29, 2009)

New lifetime e-mail is coming for all U.Va. alumni. You will be able to obtain an @alumni.virginia.edu e-mail account powered by Google Gmail.

The service is being offered on HoosOnline as an upgrade to the lifetime e-mail forwarding option that has been available for several years. The new accounts will include substantial amounts of free message storage space and other online tools, such as integrated instant messaging, interactive calendars and contact-management programs.

U.Va. Gmail is Web-based, and can be accessed from any connection to the Internet.

Over the last several months, the U.Va. Office of Information Technology and Communications (ITC) has established new accounts for active students.  

A phased roll out of the system to alumni will be starting in 2009, first to existing Alumni email forwarding account holders, and then to everyone else. You will be receiving an invitation to sign up via e-mail.

Both services include several other useful online tools, including ways to manage your contacts, calendar and instant messaging anywhere, anytime.  

 

U.Va.'s Current Alumni Email Forwarding Service

Establish a permanent "alumni.virginia.edu" address that forwards email to another email account. No matter how many times you change jobs, homes, or even countries, you can stay connected with a consistent email address.

Example:

"YourName@alumni.virginia.edu" can forward email to your account at "YourOtherName@ABCCompany.com."

If you change email accounts, you can come to HoosOnline and then:

"YourName@alumni.virginia.edu" can forward email to "YourNewName@XYZCompany.com."

Please note: Email forwarding is not an email or Internet account that stores mail so you can read and respond to it. It simply forwards email to an email account that you maintain elsewhere.

Log in at the upper right of your screen to see your email forwarding accounts.
