Gmail Help

If you are using your @alumni.virginia.edu address to forward email to your @gmail.com address, Gmail will block test messages to yourself, unless you modify your settings.

Instructions for Gmail settings

Log into your Gmail account.

Click on the Settings link
Go to the Accounts tab
Click on Add another email address
Input your forwarding address "alias@alumni.virginia.edu" in the Email Address box
Click on Next Step

The next window will read:
"Verify your email address"
"Before you can send mail as alias@alumni.virginia.edu, we need to verify that you own this email address. To perform the verification click 'Send Verification'. We will then send an email to alias@alumni.virginia.edu with instructions on how to verify your address."
Click on Send Verification

You can close the next window (Confirm verification and add your email address) as you will be provided a verification link in the email Gmail sends.  When you receive the verification email, click on the link supplied and your alias@alumni.virginia.edu address will be verified.

Once this is done, test messages to alias@alumni.virginia.edu should go through.

When you add your alias@alumni.virginia.edu address to Gmail, you also will have the option of selecting the alias@alumni.virginia.edu to display as the "From" address instead of your Gmail address.
